It’s a damn shame seriously…I’d love for Shao Kahn’s minions (Kintaro and Reiko especially) to get more screen time other than as punching bags.
Most of the characters aren’t really fleshed out at all, giving you no reason to care whether they lived or died. Unfortunately, that pretty much every bit of character development in the movie. While just a few seconds long, the interaction between the two is gold!

I really enjoyed the Kung Lao vs Shao Kahn and the Shang Tsung vs Stryker fights for their full on violence and brutality. Thankfully, the fights are brutal and with moves ripped right out of the games (complete with X-Ray sequences to show bones breaking). Those who are fans of this movie franchise will surely enjoy what happens with these characters, but those unfamiliar with these stories and characters aren't likely to find this movie to be a good starting point.There’s little to no build up for the tournament matches and they’re over way too fast to be satisfying. Otherwise, the only character who truly stands out is Johnny, who is really just another cocky action hero we've seen so many times before. The Earthrealm heroes must journey to Outworld and fight for the survival of their homeland, invaded by the forces of evil warlord Shao Kahn, in the tournament to end all tournaments: the final Mortal Kombat. There's a fantasy hero/villain sameness to these characters, despite some backstories and a noble sacrifice of one of the character's godliness in order to fight to save the Earth. There's a story or two surrounding these fight scenes, but everything seems to just be structured to set up these bloody fights. Even those with only passing familiarity with the video game series should know what to expect in terms of the violence as heads are decapitated with gushing blood shooting out of necks, spears to eyes, and, of course, heads ripped out of bodies with the spinal cord trailing underneath. Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms picks up where the previous movie, Scorpion's Revenge, left off, culminating in epic one-on-one battles that will determine the fate of the Earthrealm and those who live on it. This movie is as violent and bloody as the video game franchise on which it's based and is therefore best for fans of the video games and movies.
